Orpheus??

The story of Orpheus is one of the most well known stories in Greek Mythology, a man too tempted by what he was forbidden to do that he lost the one and only chance, given by Hades, to save his wife Euridice from death.

Euridice had died, having been biten by a snake. Devastated by the death, Orpheus tried to get her back from the underworld
Having sneeked past the three headed dog, Cerberus - who allowed those who entered to never return - Charon, the boatman who only took money in exchange for a ride over the river, and sights of the underworld, Orpheus reached Hades and his wife Persephone. Hades gave in to his pleading and said he could have Euridice back providing that as they left he didn't turn to look at her. This was too much for Orpheus and after a while of walking back turned to see if she really was there. In doing this he saw that Hades word was true. Euridice faded away from him and returned to the underworld. There was no second chance.
Orpheus, again devastated, refused company of any kind and carried on playing music. Soon this became intolerable for those around him and he was killed.

Fanlisting??

Fanlistings are the brainchild of Janine, an ex-staff member of thefanlistings.org. The idea is that a site is created in order to list the longest list of the number of fans of a certain subject, in this case Orpheus.

Why have you created a fanlisting??

The story of Orpheus has interested me for many years. My mum introduced me to mythology when I was very young through the story book I had that included the story of Persephone. The story became my favourite and whenever my parents said that they'd read me a story from the book I'd argue if they tried to suggest a different one. In school we used to watch the kind of spooky storytellers and Greek stories and this made me start thinking about it and becoming interested in the whole lot of myths rather than just the one. A few months ago my drama class wrote a play around the issue of goals and targets and used four stories. One of those was Orpheus, only the person in charge of writing the script for it modernised it and made it into a comedy which was fun to work on
